Abstract: Bacterial synthesis of vitamin B2 generates a by‐product, 5‐(2‐oxopropylideneamino)‐d‐ribityl‐aminouracil (5‐OP‐RU), with potent immunological properties in mammals, but rapid inactivation in water limits practical uses.
