Potato tubers contamination with nitrate under the influence of nitrogen fertilizers and spray with molybdenum and salicylic acid

Abstract: A field trial was conducted through 2015 and 2016 growing seasons to study the effect of nitrogen fertilizer sources and foliar spray with molybdenum (Mo), salicylic acid (SA) and their combination on tubers yield, some chemical constituents, nutrients uptake, nitrate accumulation and nitrate reductase activity in potato tubers. N source was added at a rate of 350 kg N hain five equal doses as two different forms, the first is urea and the second is ammonium sulfate plus calcium nitrate equally. SA was sprayed… Show more

“…It diminishes the negative impacts of ROS and boosts plant tolerance by diminishing the detoxification of ROS produced due to salt stress [85]. Moreover, proline improves plant antioxidant systems [86,87]. Chandrashekar and Sandhyarani [88] reported that proline accumulation assisted plants to recompense energy and increased their survival under salinity stress.…”

“…Heavy metal caught more attention because of their long persistence in soil and cause extremely toxic effects on both the production of crops and on human health due to consumption of crops ( Abdo et al, 2020 , Bharwana et al, 2013 , Elrys et al, 2020 ). It is well known that Heavy metal toxicity in the environment cause significant toxic effects on plant processes including depression on seed germination ( Reddy et al, 2005 ), disorders in mitosis ( Liu et al, 1994 ), induction of leaf chlorosis ( Wierzbicka, 1994 ), root shoot growth reduction ( Elrys et al, 2018 , Elrys et al, 2019 ), enzyme activation and inhibition ( Van-Assche, 1990 ).…”

“… Balibrea et al (1999) also obtained variation in proline content associated with plant tolerance and ability to adapt to saline conditions. Besides, the high accumulation of proline is often associated with sugarcane, which is more salt-tolerant than unselected ( Gandonou et al, 2005 , Elrys et al, 2018 , Sitohy et al, 2020 ). The trend of our results confirms the findings of Cano et al (1996) who reported high proline accumulation in stress-resistant genotypes as compared to stress-sensitive ones.…”
