“…Secreted from enteroendocrine L cells of the gastrointestinal tract (especially the distal ileum), glucagon‐like peptide 1 (GLP‐1) is considered a satiety signal in response to meal stimulation, which promotes insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon production, improves insulin sensitivity, and inhibits intestinal transit. Previous research has shown that the gastric bariatric procedures have a significant influence on the serum fasting concentrations of GLP‐1 but that the effect varies: there has been an increase or an unchanged fasting GLP‐1 level after SG and no change or even a decrease in fasting plasma GLP‐1 levels after AGB . To date, the postprandial plasma GLP‐1 level is believed to be more important than the fasting level in regulating glucose homeostasis and food intake.…”
