Postoperative cerebral dysfunction in carotid endarterectomy — a modern prevention strategy

Abstract

Based on 48 foreign and domestic publications, a systematic review on the prevention of postoperative cerebral dysfunction (POCD) that develops after reconstructive operations on the carotid arteries was carried out. Main conclusions. Reconstructive operations on the carotid arteries, which are the leading direction in the prevention of ischemic strokes in stenosing atherosclerotic lesions of the brachiocephalic arteries and, primarily, of the internal carotid artery, can cause the development of postoperative cerebral dysfunction. The current strategy for reducing the risks of cognitive impairment after surgery is not fully developed and requires further research.
