Abstract:PCA with tramadol and dipyrone can be considered an alternative for postoperative pain management and provided a more individualized treatment approach with lower analgesic consumption and more responders compared to a continuous infusion.
A combination of non-opioid analgesics, in particular NSAIDs with paracetamol, cannot be recommended at present due to the lack of data showing improved effectiveness.
The implementation of a standardized pain therapy is successful in reducing postoperative pain. Mobility and mental disposition are also influenced positively. As a consequence the incidence of unwanted side effects is rising.
