Preparing communities around mines to face the impacts of mine closures is crucial in order to reduce disruptions to their livelihoods. Building the adaptive capacity of these communities will alleviate the burden on governments or mining companies in the future. Unfortunately, adaptive capacity has not yet been integrated into post-mining planning policies. This research aims to develop an adaptive capacity framework for post-mining planning in local communities, focusing on a case study conducted in Indonesia. We developed this framework using the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) method. The findings indicate that the adaptive capacity framework provides a comprehensive approach to building the capacity to adapt and thrive in post-mining situations. This highlights the importance of continuing to disseminate post-mining plan information, prioritizing access to capital and former mine sites, fostering collaboration, and creating job opportunities. Simultaneously, efforts to increase skills should be reduced, and reallocation of efforts towards community institution building, establishing information centers, and improving community bonds should be prioritized in more important fields and programs. By adopting this framework, communities around mines in Indonesia are expected to enhance their resilience and ability to effectively respond to changing circumstances.

Assessment of dAmAge cAuses of monumentAl objects locAted in mining AreAs -cAse studyThe paper presents an example illustrating the problems of assessing the causes of damage that occurred to building structures located in mining and post-mining area. it is frequently necessary to determine whether probable damages came from other, non-mining causes or were caused by underground mining. This issue is particularly significant when it comes to monumental, historical objects because the cost of repairs is typically very high. The purpose of this work is to demonstrate, using the magnificent church as an example, that damage to building objects situated in mining areas does not necessarily result from mining activities. As a result, every such situation should be thoroughly evaluated to determine whether such a relationship exists. For the assessment of such a conclusion, multidirectional studies in the framework of this work were carried out: hydrogeological, mining and technical factors that cause the damage to the church building in question were analysed.

The ability to estimate the duration of mining impact on the surface is important for both active and decommissioned mines. It allows to plan rational land development and to assess the time of exploitation impact on buildings. The data concerns cases of exploitation with roof caving in 20 hard coal mines in Upper Silesia and cases of exploitation with hydraulic stowing in 4 mines. Based on the analysis of geological and mining documentation, the duration of the final stage of the subsidence process was established — from the end of mining operations to the final stage of the subsidence. It was assumed that the subsidence reached its final state when the increments between two consecutive measurements did not exceed 10 mm. Further analyses were carried out using the regression method using the Statistica program, looking for the relationship between the duration of the final phase of the subsidence process and the quantities characterizing the operating conditions. The obtained results indicate a significant impact of the depth of exploitation and the value of the parameter characterizing the rock mass strength properties on the duration of the final phase of the deformation process. As a result of statistical analyses, appropriate empirical formulas were proposed. In the case of performing exploitation with caving and when the variation in the value of tgβ parameter characterizing the rock mass is small, which currently occurs in the considered basin, one can use the proposed formula, linking the duration of the process with the depth of mining exploitation.
