“…In the last 20 years, magnetic resonance imaging technique (MRI), computed axial tomography (CT) guided biopsy, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were widely used to accurately diagnose and locate spinal tuberculosis, which made it possible for posterior approach to get satisfactory debridement of the lesion. However, whatever the approach being applied, the main purpose of the surgery is to gain thorough debridement, adjustment of kyphosis, and increase the stability of spinal body [18,19].…”

“…Intraoperative computer navigation including ISO-C 3D navigation, CT navigation, and 3D-visual guidance technique as reported by Abe et al [1] was first performed by Steinmann et al in the 1990s in Lumbar fusion [29], which provides a good solution to these problems [5,15,21,24,26]. But like every other techniques, computer navigation has its own disadvantages such as the potential of causing various complications to neurological, vascular and adjacent structures if misplacement [9,12,17] and excessively rigid fixation may result in clinically adverse effects, such as device-related osteoporosis [24,25] which may reduce the fusion rate and adjacent segment degeneration [9,11,26].…”

Once the PSs are accurately placed, the foundation of the procedure was established [34].…”

“…incidence of TS was 34.6% in females and 65.4% in males, 20 39.5% in females and 60.5% in males, 21 54.2% in females and 45.8% in males, 22 25% in females and 75% in males, 23 50% in females and 50% in males, 3 48% in females and 52% in males, 9 66.6% in females and 33.3% in males, 24 and 1.17 per 100,000 in the female population and 0.916 per 100,000 in the male population. 4 The generally affected spinal regions are often not significantly different.…”

“…The kyphosis angle decreased from 19.21 ± 12.63 to 8.07 ± 6.91. The neurological status of the 12 patients with preoperative neurological deficits were 6 with grade D recovered to normal; 2 with grade B, both of them to grade D; 4 with grade C, 2 to grade D, 1 to grade E, and 1 still in grade C. Sahoo et al 24 conducted a study about aposterior-only approach surgery for fixation and decompression of thoracolumbar spinal tuberculosis combined with anti-tuberculosis drugs and chemotherapy for 6 months for the treatment of TS. Followup was observed at 24 months after surgery.…”
