Internet of Things (IoT) related and IoT enabled education and research are becoming more prevalent in today's academic environment. One of the challenges faced by educators and researchers is the availability of resources to support lab based, hands on learning and research projects. Existing resources are often highly customized, balkanized, and difficult to manage. For new technology areas such as IoT, these environments rarely provide opportunities for resource sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration. In this paper, we describe the development of a multi‐tenant, IoT centric platform, the Environmental Sensing Data Network (ESDN) meant to support plug and play sensor deployment and the tools necessary for data management. The platform turns the University campus into an open platform that can be used to easily set up IoT based labs for education, research, campus infrastructure management and community applications innovation. The paper covers the development of a sensor augmentation module facilitating easy deployment and management. The operational tools and services integration are also described. We believe the platform is an important step in facilitating distance and in person education and research. ESDN is rapidly expanding beyond the multi‐site University campus supporting a growing number of research and community projects.

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoTs) are the extensions of the Internet of Things (IoTs) and have paved the way towards the industry revolution 4.0. IIoT accelerates the industry automation of internal and external working process including transport, manufacturing, and marketing units with a number of connected devices. Being the extension of IoT, it inherits the insecurities of the technology; however, this sensor-configured infrastructure of IIoT needs some extra effort to customize the existing security solutions. In spite of the reconstructions of security models, the scope of improved developments is open to detect unknown attacks. The present study helps the researchers to understand the cause for intrusion by classifying and comparing various attacks of each IIoT layers. The main focus of this survey is to analyze various security issues faced by IIoT and provide a comparative analysis on the available solutions to enhance the industrial IoTs' protection systems. This study also notifies some open research problems for academia, technologists, and researchers to flourish the IIoT domain and its security aspects.

Internet of things (IoT) involves the communication of all kinds of things embedded with sensors, electronics, software and people connected to the internet. Knowledge of IoT in the classroom provides an experience for engineering students to explore different career options. Under this scope, an IoT platform on the Arduino UNO and Raspberry Pi 3 development boards was built for academic purposes. The IoT platform was configured to monitor a microhydraulic power generation system used for the study of small-scale hydraulic power production, using a hydraulic head provided by a system of hydraulic pumps in series and/or parallel connection. The platform was designed considering a monitoring station for the acquisition of analog, digital, SPI and PWM data; a control station that receives data from the monitoring station and sends data to the cloud. The communication between modules was established using a publication/subscription system. The platform allows to registrate, visualize and process data directly in the cloud. Meaning that the IoT systems connected to this platform can be monitored from a cell phone, tablet or PC with internet access, promoting immediate access to the emerging information generated in the operating system.
