Post‐release dispersal and breeding site suitability of reintroduced populations of the Crested Ibis in Shaanxi Province, China

Abstract: Post-release dispersal of reintroduced animals refers to the process of successful colonization and failed settlement. To ensure the establishment and persistence of a reintroduced population, the impacts of different factors on the post-release dispersal of captive-bred animals must be assessed. In this article, we focused on two reintroduced Crested Ibis (Nipponia nippon) populations in Shaanxi Province, China. We applied multiple approaches to evaluate the effects of age, body weight, sex, timing of release… Show more

“…We then used 75% of the leopard coordinate data for training operation and 25% of the data for verification, repeating this 10 times [ 41 ]. The simulation test results were tested by the ROC curve and the evaluation criteria: the area surrounded by the ROC curve and abscissa, that is, the AUC value, is 0–1, and the AUC value is closer to 1, indicating that the more significant the correlation between the environmental variables and the distribution model, the better the prediction result [ 42 , 43 , 44 ]. The MAXENT model can generate the ROC curve and the corresponding AUC value, extract the corresponding value, and redraw the image in IBM SPSS Statistics 26.…”

“…In May 2007, for the first time, a Crested Ibis reintroduction project was launched in Ningshan County in Shaanxi Province, with a total of 56 cage‐bred individuals in four successive releases (Wang et al 2017). The specific information about these four releases was previously reported in detail (Yu et al 2015; Wang et al 2021).…”

“…Since the 20th century, numerous institutes have carried out continuous protection activities and research on the crested ibis [ 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 ]. Through joint efforts, this endangered wild bird species [ 8 , 9 ] has been successfully protected, with a thousand-fold increase in its population. However, with the population growth and limited habitat capacity, the reproductive efficiency of the crested ibis in the core nesting area has been greatly affected [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ].…”
