Traditionally, prior to storage or packing for sale, dates were disinfested using heat treatments in ovens (60 °C for about 20 min) or by fumigation with methyl bromide or phosphine; more recently, a modified atmosphere with high concentrations of carbon dioxide is being adopted [10,11].
