POSSIBLE THERAPEUTIC ROLE OF JASONIA CANDICANS AND JASONIA MONTANA EXTRACTS IN THE REGRESSION OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE IN EXPERIMENTAL MODEL

Abstract: The present article aimed to investigate the potential role of the ethanolic extracts of the aerial parts of Jasonia candicans and Jasonia montana in management of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) in experimental model. Supplementation of drinking water AlCl 3 (0.3%) for 16 weeks induced AD in male rats with siginifcant increase in brain Acetylcholinesterase (AchE) activity, Tumour Necrosis Factor (TNF-α), Transforming Growth Factor β (TGF-β) and 8 hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels. AlCl 3 supplementation produced… Show more

“…In the work of Ahmad et al., Chiliadenus candicans ( Delile ) Brullo and Chiliadenus montanus ( Vahl ) Brullo , both rich in sesquiterpenes, were assessed for their ability to regress AD in experimental models. Herein, oral administration (150 mg/kg) of the aforementioned extracts significantly reduced brain AChE activity.…”

“…It plays an important role in cell growth, differentiationand immunological regulation (mainly negative regulation). The process of producing is also controlled by other cytokines such as TNF-α (Mazza et al, 2010;Ahmed et al, 2013). Moreover, there is a certain relation between the antiinflammatory and anti-chemotactic effects of TGF-β and the pathological process of psoriasis.…”

“…Ethanolic extract of Jasonia candicans & Jasonia montana (150 mg/kg body weight daily for 6 weeks) worked as detoxification agent and showed anti-amyloidogenic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-cholinesterase activities against Al induced neurotoxicity in rats. J. montana showed free radicals scavenging and chelating activity against metal ions 9,37 .…”
