IntroductionThe consumption of dairy products, including soft cheese, has been associated with numerous health benefits due to their high nutritional value. However, the phenolic compounds bioaccessibility present in soft cheese is limited due to their poor solubility and stability during digestion. So, this study aimed to develop an innovative soft cheese enriched with date seed phenolic compounds (DSP) extracted ultrasonically and incorporated into homogeneous liposomes and study its attenuation effect on testosterone-induced benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in rats.MethodsDate seed phenolic compounds were extracted using 98 and 50% ethanol along with water as solvents, employing ultrasonication at 10, 20, and 30-min intervals. The primary and secondary DSP-liposomes were prepared and dehydrated. The particle size, zeta potential, encapsulation efficiency, and morphology were measured. Incorporating dehydrated liposomes (1–3% w/w) into soft cheese and their impact on BPH using male Sprague–Dawley rats was assessed. After inducing BPH, rats were fed a cheese diet with dehydrated DSP-liposomes. Over 8 weeks, parameters including nutrition parameters, prostate enlargement analysis, biochemical parameters, hormones level, oxidative stress, and cytokines were analyzed.Results and DiscussionThe results showed that ultrasound-assisted extraction effectively reduced the extraction time and 30 min extraction EtOH 50% was enough to extract high yield of phenolic compounds (558 mg GA/g) and flavonoids (55 mg qu/g) with high antioxidant activity (74%). The biological results indicate that prostate weight and prostate index% were diminished in the treatment groups (1 and 2) compared to the BPH control group. The high antioxidant content present in the DSP-liposomes acted as the catalyst for suppressing the responses of the inflammatory cytokines, inhibiting the anti-inflammatory IL-10 production, and suppressing the elevated levels of lipid peroxidation products compared to the BPH group.ConclusionThe treatment group (2) supplemented with dehydrated secondary DSP-liposomes exhibited the most significant variance (p < 0.05) as opposed to the BPH group. Liposomal encapsulation was proved to be a feasible approach for administering DSP in soft cheese, thereby establishing new functional food category possessing prophylactic properties against the advancement of BPH in rats.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is caused by various factors including toxic substances and xenobiotics. Numerous treatment strategies are used to address toxicity to the liver and HCC, yet their adverse effects are drawbacks. This study aimed to assess the effect of DEN/CCl4 on morphological changes in the liver, body weight, tumor incidence, and hematological tumor incidence, hematological parameters, hepatic markers, and histopathological analysis in mice following a preventive measure by using β‐caryophyllene (BCP). Adult Balb/c mice were administered a single dose of DEN 1‐mg/kg body weight and 0.2‐mL CCl4/kg body weight intraperitoneal twice a week (i.p.) for 22 weeks. BCP was treated in one group of mice at 30‐mg/kg body weight, intraperitoneal, for 7 weeks. BCP alone was treated in one group of mice at 300‐mg/kg body weight intraperitoneal for 22 weeks. DEN/CCl4 caused a reduction in mice's body weight, which was significantly attenuated by BCP administration. BCP supplementation attenuated the tumor incidence DEN/CCl4 (100%) to about 25%. DEN/CCl4 caused alterations in the hematological parameters, serum total protein albumin globulin, A/G ratio, liver function markers (AST, ALT, ALP, GGT, ACP, and bilirubin), and lipid profile markers that were significantly reinstated by BCP administration. Oxidative stress markers (MDA, SOD, CAT, NO, LDH, and GST) were reduced by DEN/CCl4, which were significantly increased in BCP‐treated groups. The liver histopathology alterations caused by DEN/CCl4 were amended considerably by BCP treatment. Immunohistochemical studies suggest that AFP, caspase‐3, and COX‐2 were chronically overexpressed in DEN/CCl4‐exposed mice, notably attenuated by BCP administration. BCP suppressed tumor incidence by downregulating inflammation and inducing caspase‐3‐mediated apoptosis. Conclusively, BCP appears to be a potent natural supplement capable of repressing liver inflammation and carcinoma through the mitigation of oxidative stress and inflammation pathways.

Drug delivery is the process or method of delivering a pharmacological product to have therapeutic effects on humans or animals. The use of nanoparticles to deliver medications to cells is driving the present surge in interest in improving human health. Green nanodrug delivery methods are based on chemical processes that are acceptable for the environment or that use natural biomaterials such as plant extracts and microorganisms. In this study, zinc oxide-superparamagnetic iron oxide-silver nanocomposite was synthesized via green synthesis method using Fusarium oxysporum fungi mycelia then loaded with sorafenib drug. The synthesized nanocomposites were characterized by UV-visibile spectroscopy, FTIR, TEM and SEM techniques. Sorafenib is a cancer treatment and is also known by its brand name, Nexavar. Sorafenib is the only systemic medication available in the world to treat hepatocellular carcinoma. Sorafenib, like many other chemotherapeutics, has side effects that restrict its effectiveness, including toxicity, nausea, mucositis, hypertension, alopecia, and hand-foot skin reaction. In our study, 40 male albino rats were given a single dose of diethyl nitrosamine (DEN) 60 mg/kg b.wt., followed by carbon tetrachloride 2 ml/kg b.wt. twice a week for one month. The aim of our study is using the zinc oxide-superparamagnetic iron oxide-silver nanocomposite that was synthesized by Fusarium oxysporum fungi mycelia as nanocarrier for enhancement the sorafenib anticancer effect.
