Possible refinement of clinical thromboembolism assessment in patients with atrial fibrillation using echocardiographic parameters

Abstract: These findings suggest that the use of TTE-derived parameters may be a valuable way of refining the available clinical risk schemes for the detection of surrogate markers of stroke. Follow-up studies using clinical endpoints will be necessary to confirm this hypothesis.

“…In our sample, LAVI was also shown to be an independent predictor of LAA stasis, although it was not as strong as LA S res . The associations between LA size and TEE changes were also described in the previous studies [20]. In this study, the significant difference in LAVI among three groups, which were classified according to SEC grade, were also consistent with these points of view.…”

“…There was no significant association found between mitral annular calcification and thromboembolism, or between MVP and stroke. These findings are consistent with the report of Providencia et al, 13 published after the literature search was conducted, which found that TTE-diagnosed LV systolic function and LA area measurement may provide a valuable addition to CHADS 2 and CHA 2 DS 2 -VASc scores. 13 Prevalence studies were sought for AF populations, and were not found for all pathologies.…”
