Context: Disease-specific registries that enroll a considerable number of patients play a major role in prostate cancer (PCa) research. Objective: To evaluate available registries, describe their strengths and limitations, and discuss the potential future role of PCa registries in outcomes research. Evidence acquisition: We performed a literature review of the Medline, Embase, and Web of Science databases. The search strategy included the terms prostate cancer, outcomes, statistical approaches, population-based cohorts, registries of outcomes, and epidemiological studies, alone or in combination. We limited our search to studies published between January 2005 and January 2015. Evidence synthesis: Several population-based and prospective disease-specific registries are currently available for prostate cancer. Studies performed using these data sources provide important information on incidence and mortality, disease characteristics at presentation, risk factors, trends in utilization of health care services, disparities in access to treatment, quality of care, long-term oncologic and health-related quality of life outcomes, and costs associated with management of the disease. Although data from these registries have some limitations, statistical methods are available that can address certain biases and increase the internal and external validity of such analyses. In the future, improvements in data quality, collection of tissue samples, and the availability of data feedback to health care providers will increase the relevance of studies built on population-based and disease-specific registries. Conclusions: The strengths and limitations of PCa registries should be carefully considered when planning studies using these databases. Although randomized controlled trials still provide the highest level of evidence, large registries play an important and growing role in advancing PCa research and care. Patient summary: Several population-based and prospective disease-specific registries for prostate cancer are currently available. Analyses of data from these registries yield information that is clinically relevant for the management of patients with prostate cancer.

Open retropubic radical prostatectomy (ORP) remains the "gold standard" for surgical treatment of clinically localized prostate cancer (PCa). Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) is a robotic surgery used worldwide. The aim of this study is to collect the data available in the literature on RARP and ORP, and further evaluate the overall safety and efficacy of RARP vs. ORP for the treatment of clinically localized PCa. A literature search was performed using electronic databases between January 2009 and October 2013. Clinical data such as operation duration, transfusion rate, positive surgical margins (PSM), nerve sparing, 3-and 12-month urinary continence, and potency were pooled to carry out metaanalysis. Six studies were enrolled for this meta-analysis. The operation duration of RARP group was longer than that of ORP group (weighted mean difference=64.84). There was no statistically significant difference in the transfusion rate, PSM rate, and between RARP and ORP (transfusion rate, OR=0.30; PSM rate, OR=0.94). No significant difference was seen in 3-and 12-month urinary continence recovery (3 months, OR= 1.32; 12 months, OR=1.30). There was a statistically significant difference in potency between the 3-and 12-month groups (3 months, OR=2.80; 12 months, OR=1.70). RARP is a safe and feasible surgical technique for the treatment of clinically localized PCa owing to the advantages of fewer perioperative complications and quicker patency recovery.Keywords Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy . Objective: In this study, we assessed the relationship between tumor density (tumor volume prostate volume ratio), preoperative predictive factors and biochemical recurrence (BR) in patients who underwent radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP) for prostate cancer in our clinic. Materials and Methods: For the patients undergoing RRP between 2005-2015 preoperative predictive factors, postoperative prognostic factors and BR status were evaluated. Preoperative and postoperative factors were compared between the patient groups whose BR was detected as positive and negative. Subsequently, the cut-off value effecting BR of tumor density was determined and the preoperative predictive values, postoperative prognostic factors and BR rates were investigated in patients whose tumor density found low and high. Results: BR was detected in 63 of 338 patients who underwent RRP, but not in 275 patients. In BR positive patients of multivariate analysis, the prostate needle biopsy (PNB) Gleason score of preoperative predictive factors, number of focus and perineural invasion presence and only surgical margin positivity were detected to be significantly higher from the postoperative prognostic factors (p<0.001). The cut-off value of tumor density affecting BR positivity was detected as 4.34 cc/cc (AUC: 0.711, p<0.001). BR was 4.65 times higher in patients with tumor density >4.34 cc/cc compared to patients with tumor density ≤4.34 cc/cc (p<0.001, odds ratio: 4.65). Sensitivity and specifity of the tumor density of 4.34 cc/cc value for BR were detected as 68.3% and 68.4%, separately. Moreover, it was observed in multivariate analysis that prostate specific antigen (PSA) density of preoperative data, PNB tumor percentage and number of focus were solely associated with high tumor density (>4.34 cc/cc). Conclusion: In conclusion, it was found that the most important prognostic factors affecting BR were surgical margin positivity and high tumor density; PSA density, PNB tumor percentage and number of focus were alone associated with high tumor density among the preoperative predictive factors and all predictive factors were positively correlated with tumor density.
