“…In the Argentine Precordillera, incomplete MDICE records have also been reported (Albanesi et al, 2013). In other areas, such as the Tarim Basin, South Korea, Siberia, and North America, the characteristics of the MDICE vary in each region, but it is dated in all sections in the Y. crassus to E. pseudoplanus biozones (Figure 8) (Ainsaar et al, 2015;Bang & Lee, 2020;Calner et al, 2014;Edwards & Saltzman, 2014;Lehnert, Meinhold, Wu, Calner, & Joachimski, 2014;Leslie et al, 2011;Liu et al, 2016). Globally, the long-term trend of increasing δ 13 C carb values from the Y. crassus Biozone to E. pseudoplanus Biozone also have global correlation significance especially in South China, representing the rising limb of MDICE.…”

“…In addition, numerous studies have focused on positive carbon isotope excursions in Lower Palaeozoic strata and their utility in performing global correlations (Sial et al 2008(Sial et al , 2013Cramer et al 2011;Munnecke et al 2011;Bergström et al 2012;Calner et al 2012;Albanesi et al 2013;Edwards & Saltzman, 2014). For example, the Middle Ordovician (Darriwilian) positive δ 13 C excursion (MDICE, Dw2/3), the Guttenberg Isotopic Carbon Excursion (GICE, Ka1) and the Hirnantian isotope carbon excursion (HICE, Hi1) are documented in the Middle-Late Ordovician Period (Bergstrom et al 2009;Liu et al 2016a;Zhang & Munnecke, 2016). Several problems still exist with regard to oil and gas exploration in the Lower-Middle Ordovician strata of the Tarim Basin, NW China.…”

“…Carbon isotope chemostratigraphy of the Ordovician is still in the pioneer phase of development in China, especially compared with the large number of studies carried out in North America and northern Europe. The work on the Late Ordovician δ 13 C isotopes within China has focused on the GICE (Bergström et al 2009b;Munnecke et al 2011;Fan et al 2015;Liu et al 2016a;Zhang & Munnecke, 2016) and the HICE (Wang et al 1993(Wang et al , 1997(Wang et al , 2008X Chen et al 2006;Fan et al 2009;Yan et al 2009;Zhang et al 2009;Gorjan et al 2012;Liu et al 2016b;C Chen et al 2017), whereas far less information is available for the other Katian positive carbon isotope excursions between these two prominent ones. A possible Whitewater excursion, identified both in the Jiangnan Region of South China (Munnecke et al 2011) and in the northeastern Tarim Basin of NW China (Zhang & Munnecke, 2016), is the first documentation for the mid-late Katian carbonisotope excursions in China.…”
