Positive Adaptations for Trauma and Healing (PATH), a pilot study of group therapy with Latino youth.

Abstract: This novel treatment engaged a community-based Latino sample. The results suggest high acceptability and significant reduction in trauma symptoms and associated symptoms. This study included a small number of participants and results should be interpreted with caution. Future iterations will target larger number of participants to further assess feasibility. “…Fear of disaster is a very common reaction experienced by the victims, with the emotional loss, insomnia, excessive vigilance, and flashbacks. Trauma healing is carried out through drug administration, or psychological therapy with the healing given to adults different from children (Hoskins, Duncan, Moskowitz, & Ordóñez, 2018). In children, it is conducted through several methods; the first is through the play therapy technique (Rahman, 2018).…”

“…Generally, group therapy may be especially suitable for individuals belonging to ethnic minorities (such as Hispanic immigrants) as group members may share language, cultural values, religious beliefs, and traditions (Hoskins et al, 2018). Group therapy is aligned with common cultural values of Hispanic immigrants (Taylor, 2006).…”

“…Cultural adaptations may also decrease attrition, thereby increasing dosage effects, and may decrease the noted gap in treatment effect sizes for non-Hispanic White versus non-White or Hispanic clients seen in some studies (Frisman, Ford, Lin, Mallon, & Chang, 2008;Lamp, Avallone, Maieritsch, & Buchholz, 2019). In fact, in what may be a positive augur, a culturally modified group intervention targeted at Latino youth with trauma demonstrated positive results with a 93% attendance rate over 10 sessions, 0% dropout rate, and large reductions in PTSD symptomology following treatment (Hoskins et al, 2018).…”
