There is a paucity of research on the educational experiences of Filipinx Americans, the second-largest Asian American group in the United States. Studies that do exist often lump Filipinxs with other Asian Americans or present them devoid of critical contexts that shape their experience, namely, colonialism and racialization. Using a desire-based framework and empire as an analytic, we conducted a semi-systematic review of 74 journal articles to better understand how Filipinx Americans are presented in the research. Our analysis suggests that researchers often position Filipinx Americans relative to whiteness or utilize critical educational framings to interrogate the complex ways they are racialized. We offer implications for research focused on Filipinx Americans and minoritized groups. We conclude by discussing the utility of interdisciplinary research as well as the necessity for desirability and empire as a lens for future education research.

This study designs a general analysis model for fusion method, big data portrait of young users using map engine data, and tries to solve the problem of fusion of qualitative and quantitative methods in user portrait. This paper determines the necessity of freshmen group portrait in the practice of ideological education by studying the freshmen group portrait and its objectives, connotations and roles; through the various aspects of data collection, cleaning, structuring, data analysis and modeling, the Echarts platform is used to establish a data visualization example, to achieve a three-dimensional, multi-dimensional and interactive visualization output of the freshmen group portrait, and with the help of the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, the design of the Research model. Based on the theory of sociological psychology, we construct a user value map, use Look-alike algorithm to construct the map data labeling system, use K-Means clustering algorithm to get the data results, and analyze the data results for business. Using the model for big data empirical demonstration, the results show that young users can be divided into 20 categories of groups, and the total number of data results reaches 170 million, and the number of preference labels reaches 606, which is better than the results of survey data. And it is applied in the initial education and teaching practice process, obtaining better results, with replicable and generalizable practical application scenarios.

The Chinese of Chinatown, San Francisco largely opposed the city-wide racial integration plan that would bus their children across the city beginning in 1971. Claiming that it was a violation of their language rights, a need for cultural preservation and continued autonomy from the San Francisco that had long excluded them, Chinatown instituted its own school system called the Chinese Freedom Schools. With this boycott of the public schools, the Chinese were constituted as oppositional to the aims of racial integration, searing constructions of them as being pro-White, anti-Black, and separatist. Yet, such a simplistic and binary argument omits the long history of exclusion including employment, schooling, housing, and voting discrimination as evidenced by the Chinese Exclusion Act (1882–1965), the only law to exclude a specifically named ethnolinguistic group. To historicize and understand the Chinese Freedom Schools, I analyze this phenomenon using a racial matrix where Asians have long occupied a liminal, in-between space as perpetually foreign, unassimilable, and as a suspect class. Drawing from the theories and concepts of LangCrit, raciolinguistic ideologies and Asian American studies, I examine how agents, institutions, the press, and policies imposed, assumed, or negotiated specific identities of the Chinese during the development, implementation, and dissolution of the Chinese Freedom Schools. I analyze how the Chinese were constructed as uncooperative, creating a competitive cleavage among Asians and Blacks, while dismissing the centrality of White families who largely moved out of the system, avoiding critique. Implications for language-in-education policy are proposed for Lau’s 50th anniversary.
