Portable electrochemical blood uric acid meter

Abstract: We describe a new portable uric acid (UA) meter, called the UASure (Apex Biotechnology Corp., Hsinchu, Taiwan). The UASure is an electrochemical blood UA meter designed for fast monitoring of UA concentrations in one drop of capillary blood using an electrochemical test strip. We compared the UASure with the standard method, the Hitachi 7600 modular system (Hitachi, Tokyo, Japan), in 146 volunteers (average age 62.5 +/- 12.8 years). Of these, 65 were known hyperuricemic subjects, 17 of whom received medical th… Show more

“…The available at‐home UA test kits like HumaSens plus and UASure require fingertip punctures, which hinders frequent UA measurement and discomforts patients‐ specifically children and elderly patients raising the need for a painless and convenient UA test [52–54] . Further, the at‐home UA test kits like UASure, cannot detect UA concentrations lower than 170 μM limiting their application for the diagnosis of certain diseases associated with low UA levels [53, 55] . Importantly, 100 % of the SUA can also be found in ISF, qualifying MN‐based detection as a highly promising method [56, 57] .…”

“…The elevated SUA level acts as a key risk factor predicting diabetic‐associated complications like stroke, kidney deterioration, and fatty liver disease, [50, 51] necessitating SUA monitoring in diabetic patients in addition to glucose. “…Alat ukur asam urat memiliki akurasi dan presisi yang baik dan terdapat korelasi linear dengan pengukuran metode standar (Kuo et al 2002) dalam pengukuran kadar asam urat dalam darah. Akurasi dan presisi alat dalam mengukur kadar asam urat dalam medium in vitro dibuktikan dengan hasil regresi dari kurva kalibrasi Gambar 1.…”
