Porphyrin Functionalized Graphene for Sensitive Electrochemical Detection of Ultratrace Explosives

Abstract: Porphyrin functionalized graphene is used to electrochemically detect nitroaromatic explosives. It is found that synergistic effects from the specific good adsorptive properties of porphyrin and the large electroactive surface area and fast charge transfer of graphene contribute to the sensitive detection. The porphyrin/graphene sensor shows an ultratrace detection of as low as 1 ppb of 2,4-dinitrotoluene, 0.5 ppb of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene, 1 ppb of 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene and 2 ppb of 1,3-dinitrobenzene respecti… Show more

“…Some of these s works have been generated by condensed-matter physi-TOPICAL CLUSTER cists who finally have a material that had long been modelled, but had not been believed to exist in a free state [79]. The application of the graphene as a transducer platform are really interesting in several fields such as microbiological detection [15][16][17], detection of pesticides [33,53] and explosive detection [67][68][69][70][71]. Graphene have been used as transducer platform for bacteria detection [15].…”

“…However, the measured I pa and I pc for GO-MnTPP are 1.25 and -1.24 mA, respectively. The enhancement of peak currents of the GO-MnTPP electrode may be ascribed to quick electronic transport between MnTPP and GO moieties, which are covalently bonded together [59,60].…”

“…Recently, N-doped materials have also attracted much attention for their electron-donating amine groups (-NH 2 ) which tend to have charge-transfer interaction with the electron-withdrawing nitroaromatic molecules [12,[28][29][30][31][32]. Porphyrin functionalized graphene shows the sensitive detection of ultratrace explosives [8] due to the synergistic effect of the good specific adsorption of porphyrin and fast charge transfer of graphene.…”
