Porous Polymer Films and Honeycomb Structures Based on Amphiphilic Dendronized Block Copolymers

Abstract: Fabrication of honeycomb patterned films from our synthesized amphiphilic dendronized block copolymer by "on-solid surface spreading" method and "on-water spreading" method was reported for the first time in this paper. The comparison of the two methods indicated honeycomb-patterned films with smaller size, and larger surface density of micropores can be fabricated by spreading on water but with lower regular arrangement. Furthermore, several influencing factors on the formation of the honeycomb structure and … Show more

“…[12][13][14][15] A variety of polymers and block polymers such as polystyrene (PS), a-D-glucose, b-cyclodextrin and cellulose derivatives, dendronized polymethacrylate block polymer, and linear poly(ethylene oxide) block polymer have been used to fabricate such films. [16][17][18] Nanoparticles, such as gold, silver, and CdSe, are added into the porous films for different applications. [19][20][21] In this work, a porous polymer film was used as a template to guide the patterning of proteins and a 3D pattern of proteins was achieved.…”

“…Furthermore, various micro structures such as pincushion structures, 10 microsphere arrays 11 and so on were fabricated based on secondary processing of the honeycomb-patterned films. Wide variety of materials, including block copolymers, [12][13][14][15] star polymers, [16][17][18] dendrimers 19 can be used to prepare the honeycomb-patterned films. Amphiphilic copolymers (polyacrylamide, 20 polyion complex 21 ) are suitable polymers for preparation of the honeycomb-patterned films.…”

“…In contrast, chemical processes are rather quick. For example, water-assisted honeycomb pattern formation was reported by Shimomura and co-workers [6][7][8][9][10]. Water droplets were spontaneously assembled on the polymer solution, and honeycomb structure was formed on the substrate under high humidity conditions.…”
