Porous Fe@C Composites Derived from Silkworm Excrement for Effective Separation of Anisole Compounds

Abstract: Silkworm excrement is a very useful biomass waste, composed of layer-structured fats and proteins, which are great precursors for carbon composite materials. In this work, new porous composites derived from silkworm excrement were prepared for selective separation of flavor 4-methylanisole from the binary 4-methylanisole/4-anisaldehyde mixture. In particular, the silkworm excrement, possessing a unique nanosheet structure, is converted into a graphite-like carbon by a simple calcination strategy followed by a … Show more

“…The peak at 285.5 eV corresponded to the presence of CS bonds, which confirmed the presence of sulfur and the reaction between sulfur and the Fe/Fe 3 C-MWCNT@ACT composite. The peak at 284.3 eV could be ascribed to the presence of Fe 3 C, agreeing well with XRD results. Two dominant peaks at 163.7 and 164.9 eV in the S 2p spectrum (see Figure S4b) were identified as S 2p 3/2 and S 2p 1/2 .…”

“…2 Additionally, ANI and 4MA can be found in trace amounts in certain natural products and crop oils. 3 Alkylation using methanol is one of the more common methods used to transform phenol to ANI, and the different o-, m-and p-cresols to the MAs. 2,4 In the case of the synthesis of the MAs, phenol may be subjected to O-alkylation to form ANI following which ANI then reacts through C-alkylation to form the MA compound.…”
