Poroid Hidradenoma: A Two-Case Report and Literature Review

Abstract: Poroid hidradenoma (PH) is a rare benign tumor that shows differentiation of the eccrine sweat gland. It occurs mainly in adults, presenting as a 0.5 to 2 cm-sized intradermal nodule, mostly on the head, extremities, trunk and neck. We report two rare cases of PH, one on the face and the other on the heel. The first patient was a 50-year-old male who had a solitary, skin-colored nodule on his right temple for 6 months. The second patient was a 67-year-old female who presented with a solitary, bean-sized, tende… Show more

“…Poroid hidradenoma, such as that within which the hidradenocarcinoma evolved in Case 1, is a rare benign eccrine sweat gland neoplasm ( Lim et al, 2021 ). Poroid hidradenomas account for approximately 5% of hidradenomas ( Lim et al, 2021 ) and demonstrate differentiation towards the intradermal portion of the sweat gland ( Lim et al, 2021 , Macagno et al, 2021 ).…”

No accounts of poroid hidradenomas arising on the vulva were found in the literature, with most cases arising on the trunk, upper limb, lower limb and head and neck ( Lim et al, 2021 ).…”

“…Discussion PH is one of the four variants of poroid neoplasms characterized by a single or multilobulated nodule contained within the dermis with no connection to the overlying epidermis [27,38]. These tumors are composed of two types of cells: small, round, basophilic poroid cells and eosinophilic, squamoid cuticular cells with eccrine differentiation [6].…”
