Pore Structure Characteristics, Genesis, and Its Controlling Effect on Gas Migration of Quaternary Mudstone Reservoir in Qaidam Basin

Abstract: The Sanhu Depression in Qaidam Basin is the largest Quaternary biogenic gas exploration area with the shallowest burial depth in the world. The shallow high abundance of gas reservoirs and high-quality pure methane have become the main production areas. The development characteristics of loose mudstone reservoirs are restricted by extreme heterogeneity. Therefore, the Quaternary Qigequan Formation mudstone in Qaidam Basin is selected as the research object. Based on the study of the sedimentary background, pet… Show more

“…Shale, one of the most important sedimentary rocks of the Quaternary system, has the following characteristics. The color of the Quaternary shale is relatively simple, mainly gray, dark gray, yellow, and other colors [24]. The lithology of the Quaternary shale is diverse, including silty shale, clay shale, coal interlayer, etc., mainly silty shale and clay shale.…”

“…The Qaidam Basin (90°16′–99°16′E, 35°00′–39°20′N) is located in western Qinghai Province, in the northeastern part of the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau, and is the largest onshore biogenic gas field area in China, which is controlled by the systems of the Altun Mountains, Qilian Mountains and Kunlun Mountains (Zhang, 2019; He et al, 2022; Qiao et al, 2022), with a total area of ~12.1 × 10 4 km 2 and an altitude of 2650–3000 m (Fig. 1).…”
