The field experiment was carried out at Polasa Farm, Regional agricultural research station Jagtial during the Kharif, 2014-15 and 2015-16. Study about pre dominant lepidopteran insect –pests in soybean crop noticed that the tobacco cut worm, (Spodptera exigua Hubner), green semi looper(Crysodexis acuta Walker), and tobacco caterpillar (Spodoptera litura Fab) along with stemfly, (Melanagromyza obtusa Zehnter) as non lepidopteran pest were noticed at various growth stages of cropgrowth. The peak activity of stem fly (37.84%) was observed during 37th standard week per meter row) for the year 2014 and for the year 2015 to a maximum infestation of 35.70 per cent during 30th std.week. The peak activity of caterpillar pests i.e., S. litura (7.6 larvae per meter row) for the year 2014 was observed during 34th std.week and for the year 2015 (12.4 per meter row during 36th std.week and C. acuta (0.7 larvae per meter row) during 36th std. week for the year 2014 and for the year 2015 (2.20 larvae/mrl on 37th std week. S. exigua (1.6 larvae per meter row) for both the years 2014 and 2015 was observed during 32th std.week Among the natural enemies, one predators namely, spiders (Oxyopes sp. was observed to prey on the insect pests.The biocontrol agent’s one species, lynx spider, Oxyopes sp. population recorded on the crop during Kharif , 2014 ranged from 0.15 to 0.40 /mrl and 0.15 to 0.60/ mrl during Kharif, 2015.

IntroductionGenomic selection (GS) is a potential breeding approach for soybean improvement.MethodsIn this study, GS was performed on soybean protein and oil content using the Ridge Regression Best Linear Unbiased Predictor (RR-BLUP) based on 1,007 soybean accessions. The SoySNP50K SNP dataset of the accessions was obtained from the USDA-ARS, Beltsville, MD lab, and the protein and oil content of the accessions were obtained from GRIN.ResultsOur results showed that the prediction accuracy of oil content was higher than that of protein content. When the training population size was 100, the prediction accuracies for protein content and oil content were 0.60 and 0.79, respectively. The prediction accuracy increased with the size of the training population. Training populations with similar phenotype or with close genetic relationships to the prediction population exhibited better prediction accuracy. A greatest prediction accuracy for both protein and oil content was observed when approximately 3,000 markers with -log10(P) greater than 1 were included.DiscussionThis information will help improve GS efficiency and facilitate the application of GS.

Four plant oils at the concentrations of 2.5, 5 and 10% viz.; Jatropha, (Jatropha curcas) Ocimum, (Ocimum grattisimum) Kapoor, (Cinnamomum camphora) Lantana, (Lantana camara) were tested for the growth regulatory activities against 8 day old larvae of S. litura and S. obliqua larvae and plant oil composition testing by GC-MS analysis for selected oils. Among four oils J. curcas (10%) showed better results for both the insects while least effective were L. camara (2.5%) and C. camphora (2.5%) for S. litua and S. obliqua larvae respectively. J. curcas (10%) also showed highest terminal larval mortality followed by C. camphora > O. grattisimum > L camara for mentioned insects. The analysis of plant oils revealed the presence of over 43 compounds, contributed to 99.16, 92.78 and 94.97 % of the total tested oils (J. curcas, O. grattisimum and C. camphora) respectively. In tested oils by GC-MS analysis among other compounds in highest quantity terpenoids were found. These plant secondary metabolites can be the responsible factor for effect of plant oils against insect-pest growth and development or as plant based insecticides.
