“…Both studies concluded that there is probably no satisfactory infraspecific classification for these complexes, because populations form a spectrum of morphologically different forms across their distributional range. To date, only two genetic studies have documented the relationships and levels of genetic variation found in palm species complexes (Loo et al ., 1999; Kjaer et al ., 2004), but none has focused on Geonoma .…”

“…Our previous study using RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA) profiling on three populations of L. glabra (Loo et al, 1999) revealed genetic diversity among three morphologically differentiated populations located within 40 km of each other in the state of Terengganu in Peninsular Malaysia. Molecular tools such as DNA fingerprinting and sequencing will have to be carried out throughout the distribution range of the species to address gene flow, genetic structuring and relationships of the populations within and among the ranges and to test the congruence of molecular and phenetic data.…”

“…Our previous work using RAPD profiling of three different geographic populations has shown that the species exhibits genetic structuring at the populational level (Loo et al, 1999). The genetic differentiation also correlates to morphological differences between these populations.…”

“…Like that of Borchsenius (1999), this paper is important in palm systematics because of its use of appropriate methodology and conclusive results. Loo et al . (1999) used molecular data to analyse three populations of L. glabra , and used both CA and PCA.…”
