“…Three Bulinus species (B. truncatus, B. senegalensis, and B. senegalensis) known to be intermediate hosts for S. haematobium were collected from the Ase River catchment, Delta State, Nigeria. These snail assemblages are similar to a preliminary report by Fryer and Probert (1988) and Abe et al, (2017). The Bulinus-specie-speci c infectivity by S. haematobium uctuated throughout the study period.…”

“…This observation is contrary to the assertions of Amoah et al, (2017) who documented higher snail infectivity in September and October. The variations in snail infectivity across different months may be attributed to several factors, including environmental conditions, water quality, and snail population dynamics as opined by Abe et al, (2017) and Ezinna et al, (2023). The higher prevalence rates observed during certain months, such as February, highlight the need for targeted interventions during speci c periods of the year.…”

“…Water currents of 1.91M/S 2 and below however did not favour thriving of snails. Snails tend to be washed off by very high water currents [1]. Also, a flowing stream tends to be more aerated and nutrient rich than stagnant waters and as such may better favour the thriving of snail population.…”

“…Diseases such as fascioliasis, schistosomiasis, paragonimiasis require fresh water snail hosts for their life cycle. These diseases are prevalent in the tropics and are termed neglected tropical diseases because their economic and disease burden affects poorer people [1]. 93% of the current schistosomiasis burden resides in Sub Saharan Africa [2].…”

“…The range type of production practice by the farmers/backyard raisers in raising free range chickens, make them more exposed and easily infect with gastrointestinal parasites, cause to lower their resistance (Taiwo, 2005;Bagbe, 2017). The gastrointestinal parasites could affect the performance of the birds, in terms of growth and egg production.…”
