Poncirin attenuates CCL4-induced liver injury through inhibition of oxidative stress and inflammatory cytokines in mice

Abstract: Background: In the present study, the poncirin which is flavonoid-7-o-glycosides (isolated from the Poncirus trifoliata) in nature was evaluated against the Carbon tetra chloride (CCL4)-induced liver injury. The poncirin have been reported for various anti-inflammatory, analgesic activity etc. Based on the previous studies it was anticipated that the poncirin will ameliorate CCL4-induced liver injury. Methods: The CCL4-induced acute and chronic liver injury model (albino BALB/c mice) was used. Following the ind… Show more

“…These changes are coupled to an increase in oxidative stress 64 . Oxidative stress is known to stimulate NLRP3 inflammasome activation and IL1B maturation 22 – 24 , 65 , 66 . Interestingly, differential gene expression and pathway analysis of RNA-sequencing data in wild-type mice treated solely with WY-14643 revealed activation of some acute inflammatory response pathways.…”

“…The pharmacokinetic parameters of the continentalic acid were assessed using Swiss target prediction software ( http://www.swisstargetprediction.ch/ ) as reported previously [ 39 ]. The various parameters that were assessed during the current study includes physicochemical properties, lipophilicity, aqueous solubility, absorption and pharmacokinetic parameters were evaluated.…”

“…1 In addition phenol and flavonoid rich plants and compounds have been reported to exert natural antioxidant effects. 27,28 This may explain the observed antioxidant and hepatoprotection produced by the extract in paracetamol-induced liver toxicity. Similarly, silymarin is a polyphenolic flavonoid derived from Silybum marianum which has shown different pharmacological potentials like anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective and as an antioxidant as shown in this study.…”
