Polyphyllin I inhibits proliferation and metastasis of ovarian cancer cell line HO-8910PM in vitro

Abstract: PPI has strong antitumor and anti transfer activity. It can activate c-Jun expression and the JNK signaling pathway, elicit cell apoptosis via the mitochondrial-mediated Caspase activation pathway, and finally inhibit tumor growth and migration in vitro. The downregulation of PIK3C2B and Wnt5A jointly inhibit the proliferation and metastasis of HO-8910PM. PPI may be a novel treatment for ovarian cancer.

“…The in vitro migration assays were performed as previously described with some modifications (18,19) using Transwells (8-µm pore size; BD Corporation, Franklin Lakes, NJ, USA). The COLO205 cells were added to the upper inserts of the chamber (200 µl serumfree medium containing 2x10 4 cells), and 600 µl medium with 1% FBS was added to the lower well.…”

“…In human lung cancer cell lines A549, SPCA-1, H1975, NCI-H446, NCI-H460, NCI-H292 and NCI-H69, periplocin can inhibit proliferation and induce apoptosis of cancer cells by the Akt and ERK signaling pathway in vitro and in vivo (94). Polyphyllin I, a component derived from Rhizoma Paridis Chonglou, was proved to suppress proliferation and metastasis of human ovarian cancer cell line HO-8910PM by activating the JNK signaling pathway (95).…”

“…Polyphyllin I (PPI), an active component obtained from Rhizoma Paridis saponins, has been reported to exhibit various biological activities against many types of cancer [9][10][11][12]. In one study, PPI inhibited tumor growth and induced apoptosis in human breast cancer cells, and these effects were enhanced by activating the PTEN-induced kinase 1 signaling pathway [11].…”
