Polyphenols as active ingredients for cosmetic products

Abstract: Polyphenols are secondary plant metabolites with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial activity. They are ubiquitously distributed in the plant kingdom; high amounts contain, for example, green tea and grape seeds. Polyphenolic extracts are attractive ingredients for cosmetics and pharmacy due to their beneficial biological properties. This review summarizes the effects of polyphenols in the context of anti-ageing activity. We have explored in vitro studies, which investigate antioxidant activity, … Show more

“…Differences in spreadability and viscosity of the ointments resulted in different amounts applied to patients in clinical settings and different feel on the skin; these variations may affect the therapeutic effectiveness of the preparation (16). In the evaluation of rheological parameters, the best properties were those of formulation F-6, which does not contain plasma, and formulations F-2 and F-3 containing 2 % plasma and 5 and 1.5 % quercetin, respectively.…”

“…The scientific researches of these compounds have been extensively done especially on flavonoids group. The antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory actions present are beneficial in skin related cosmetic products (Zillich et al 2015). A clinical study was conducted by Chuarienthong et al (2010) where the efficacy of antiwrinkle formulations containing flavonoids from gingko and mixture of tea and rooibos was evaluated.…”

“…Compounds vary from macro to nano and with skin penetration using different delivery techniques. 193,[247][248][249][250][251] Recently, resveratrol encapsulated in the solid lipid nanoparticle showed enhanced skin uptake with increased protection and antioxidant activity. 144 Solid lipid nanoparticles were compared nanostructured lipid carrier systems and found similar efficiencies with increased retention in the skin.…”
