Polyphenol Profile and Biological Activity Comparisons of Different Parts of Astragalus macrocephalus subsp. finitimus from Turkey

Abstract: The members of the genus Astragalus have great interest as traditional drugs in several folk systems including Turkey. In this sense, the present paper was aimed to explore the biological properties and chemical profiles of different parts (aerial parts, leaves, flowers, stems, and roots) of A. macrocephalus subsp. finitimus. Antioxidant (radical quenching, reducing power, and metal chelating) and enzyme inhibitory (α-amylase and tyrosinase) effects were investigated for biological properties. Regarding chemic… Show more

“…Phenolic compounds with one or more hydroxyl groups are effective hydrogen or electron donors. Regarding the metal chelating ability, the contradictory results could be explained by the presence of non-phenolic chelators in M. maritima shoot extracts, including polysaccharides, peptides, or vitamin C [ 43 ].…”

“…Astragalus , the dried root of Astragalus membranaceus , is one of the most commonly used herbs for the treatment of kidney diseases in traditional Chinese medicine. There have been observations of many biological activities of Astragalus , including immunomodulatory [ 70 ], antioxidant [ 71 ], anti-inflammatory [ 72 ], and kidney protection [ 73 ].…”
