Polyphasic characterization of Burkholderia gladioli isolated from onion and evaluation of its potential pathogenicity for other crops

Show more

“…Burkholderia gladioli has been reported to have causes ear soft rot in the United States (Lu et al., 2007) and similar diseases in other plants such as rice (Riera‐Ruiz et al., 2014), gladiolus (Yanez et al., 2022), sweet potato (Zhang et al., 2020), saffron (Fiori et al., 2011) and onion (Serret‐Lopez et al., 2020). Furthermore, leaf stripe and stalk rot of corn caused by B. gladioli was first reported in Mexico (Gijon‐Hernandez et al., 2011).…”

“…Therefore, the strain of the bacterium tested (MHSL06) was identified as a strain of Burkholderia gladioli ‐based on the physiology and biochemical characterization.

Another group of taxonomic importance with a molecular approach is the Burkholderia genus, due to biochemical, biological, and morphological characterization restrictions (Espinosa-Victoria et al, 2020;Serret-López et al, 2021;. In recent years, the introduction of various next-generation sequencing strategies and platforms (NGS), as well as genomic, phylogenomic, and bioinformatic tools, have significantly contributed to a better understanding of the microorganism's evolution and interaction with their environment (Jagadeesan et al, 2019).…”
