“…VCAM1 [110], PDGFB (platelet derived growth factor subunit B) [121], IGF2BP1 [162], DAPK1 [183] and hsa-mir-17-5p [1683] are a potential markers for the detection and prognosis of endometriosis. VCAM1 [1232], hsa-mir-17-5p [1684] and hsa-mir-2110 [1685] are a key initiator of polycystic ovarian syndrome. A previous study reported that VCAM1 [1287], PDGFB (platelet derived growth factor subunit B) [1311], PRKCB (protein kinase C beta) [1301], hsa-mir-17-5p [1686], hsa-mir-10b-5p [1687] and TRIM28 [1688] are altered expressed in obesity.…”

“…We did not find an association between Ser128Arg polymorphisms and the risk of developing PCOS in the present sudy, indicating that these polymorphisms alone may not play a major role in the PCOS etiopathogenesis. In addition, we reported recently the lack of association between intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM1) and vascular adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM1) polymorphisms with PCOS [38,39]. However, the VCAM1 -1591 polymorphism was found to be related with increased triglyceride and decreased HDL-C in PCOS, supporting increased risk for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease in PCOS women [39].…”

“…Additionally, VCAM-1 has been shown to be associated in cancer [ 68 ], autoimmune diseases [ 69 ]. VCAM-1 has been suggested to be upregulated in PCOS (Polycytic ovary syndrome) [ 70 ], where it has been shown that this gene correlates with androgen production in theca cells of mouse ovaries, [ 71 ]. Ovarian processes such as oogenesis, folliculogenesis and ovulation require close cooperation between the cytoskeleton and the extracellular matrix (ECM) which is encoded by genes described in porcine granulosa cells [ 72 ].…”

“…Many glycoproteins found in the ECM of granulosa cells have been described to influence the occurrence of diseases within the ovary, including PCOS and POI [ 107 109 ]. Interestingly, several genes encoding cytoskeleton-related proteins have also been described in relation to PCOS, including: TPM2, VCAM-1 [ 47 , 70 ], and in the case of COL3A1 also in the aspect of POI [ 74 , 75 ]. Given some ability to modulate cytoskeleton composition with actin-binding proteins [ 41 , 110 ], it should be possible to influence ECM composition.…”
