Polymorphism of the renalase gene in end-stage renal disease patients affected by hypertension

Abstract: Our results are the first to suggest an association between renalase gene polymorphisms analysed and hypertension in dialysed patients. It may be an important step towards gaining a deeper insight into cardiovascular pathophysiology. Furthermore, it might provide an optimal treatment and better prognosis for patients with chronic kidney disease.

“…12 There have been evidences suggesting that renalase is not only closely related to the cardiovascular complications of CKD, but also possibly associated with essential hypertension, stroke, heart failure, and T2DM. [13][14][15][16] Metabolic Syndrome, also known as IR syndrome, is a disease state in which a variety of metabolic disorders and cardiovascular disease, especially obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia and blood lipid abnormalities are involved.…”

“…The association of rs2576178, which maps in the 5' flanking region of the renalase transcript, with hypertension was confirmed by a casecontrol study on 400 Caucasian end-stage renal disease patients of Polish origin under dialysis [67]. The same survey also found a significant correlation of the G allele of the rs10887800, mapping in intron 6, with increased incidence of hypertension.…”

“…Zhao et al [15] described higher incidence of hypertension in subjects with G-allele rs2576178, suspecting this gene to be responsible for essential hypertension. Four years later Stec et al [16] described association between polymorphism of the renalase gen and hypertension in haemodialysed patients -they observed hypertension more often among patients with a G-allele rs2576178 but also with the G-allele rs10887800. However, in another study in haemodialysis patients, renalase gene rs2576178 polymorphism was not associated with blood pressure [17].…”

“…They used, as did Malyszko et al [29], a commercially available ELISA kit to measure renalase levels [31]. Genetic studies conducted by Stec et al [16] delivered new information about SNPs in the renalase gene among haemodialysed patients with hypertension. They observed the relationship between hypertension and SNPs in the renalase gene (G allele frequencies of rs2576178 and rs0887800) [16].…”
