Abstract:The thermal transitions in cholesteryl palmitate have been evaluated and compared to previously reported data. A sample synthesized from carefully purified cholesterol and palmitic acid using p-toluene sulfonic acid compared directly with previously reported data. A sample of recrystallized ester from a commercial source showed a slightly depressed solid to mesophase transition temperature. However, the mesophase proved t o be smectic, commonly reported as monotropic with respect to the solid phase. Both smect… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
