Polymerizable Esters of Lactic Acid. α-Carbalkoxyethyl Acrylates and Methacrylates

Abstract: Vol. 67 droxide according to the method indicated, but not described by Claisen.4 To 125 g. of potassium hydroxide in 400 cc. of absolute alcohol was added 198 g. of a-bromo-/Sethoxypropionaldehydediethylacetal and the mixture refluxed in an atmosphere of nitrogen for two hours. Insoluble solids were filtered off and the filtrate distilled under vacuum. The residue from the distillation was extracted with ether and the extract concentrated and combined with the first distillate. Redistillation yielded 110 g. (… Show more

“…Hydroquinone (analytical grade; Shanghai Biochemical Reagent Co., China), sodium powder in kerosene (Beijing Metal Product Co.), and sodium hydroxide (analytical grade) were directly used without further purification. Acryloyl chloride (AC) was prepared from acrylic acid according to Rehberg et al 23 Acrylic acid (AA) (chemical grade; Oriental Chemical Plant, China) and dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA, commercial grade; Shandong Qilu Chemical Plant, China) were purified by distillation under reduced pressure. Ammonium persulfate (APS, analytical grade) and methylene bisacrylamide (MBA, analytical grade), provided by Beijing Fine Chemical Co., were purified by recrystallization from water.…”

“…N-Isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) was synthesized from acrylonitrile and isopropyl alcohol [13]. Acryloyl chloride was always freshly prepared from acrylic acid and phosphorus trichloride [14]. HL60 cells (Human promyelocytic leukemia) were purchased from Shanghai Institute Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.…”
