Polymeric Organometallic Architectures of Novel PSe Anions

Abstract: The characterisation of a series of compounds obtained from Woollins' reagent (W.R.) offers a novel approach to organometallic coordination polymers. The syntheses were achieved by nucleophilic ring-opening reactions of W.R. with metal salts and crystallisation using solvent-diffusion techniques. One-dimensional coordination polymers are formed as a result, and we demonstrate that the dimensionality of the polymers can be influenced by using hydrated metal salts or by the construction of heterometallic arrange… Show more

“…The P-P distance [2.252 (2) It is interesting to compare the structures of the two sodium salts [(2-C 4 H 3 S)P] 2 Se 4 Na 2 (1g) and (PhP) 2 Se 4 Na 2 -(thf) 3 . [11] The salts are quite similar, both have an aromatic substituent bonded to phosphorus. In both cases the tetraselenohypodiphosphonate anions are coordinated to sodium ions to form chains throughout the crystal.…”

“…[11] The tetraselenohypodiphosphonate anions can act as chelating ligands coordinating through two selenium atoms bonded either to the same phosphorus atom (A) or to different phosphorus atoms (B) (Figure 3). In addition, a combination of the two coordination modes is also possible.…”

“…[39] The extended solid-state structure of 9 can be described as a corrugated ladder of two dimerized KSe strands. In an attempt to rationalize the reaction mechanism involved in the formation of 9, both PhP(Se)A C H T U N G T R E N N U N G (StBu) 2 and PhPA C H T U N G T R E N N U N G (StBu) 2 were identified as soluble by-products and their identity checked by separate targeted synthesis.…”
