Show more

“…If glucose is added, it binds to PBA and therefore occupies possible binding sites for hydrogen bonds. This is the reason why a smaller Φ is causing larger changes of ΔSP. , When the Φ of the hydrogel inside the chamber is lower, it contains more water at the beginning of the measurement and more bound water can be released due to glucose binding. Although it is generating a smaller initial pressure, the impact on the relative change is larger.…”

“…Moreover, pressure sensors are robust, established for long-term use and are therefore advantageous over other sensing concepts . In our previous research, we had already established the use of sensor setups measuring the swelling pressure of hydrogels. In the present work, the representation of measurement conditions of a medical application was considered by the construction of the sensing setups. The hydrogels shall in the future be available as a sensor material in medical implants.…”

“…In this work, we will focus on the development of water swellable materials that can be used as self‐repairing systems in the field of sealing technology by combining the properties of elastomeric powders (EP), thermoplastics (TP), and superabsorbent polymers (SAP). With the materials obtained, new self‐repairing sealing systems can be developed, as already established for polymeric hydrogels 14. The products that can be realized from the material obtained are applicable particularly in the field of civil engineering and pipe technology,15 e.g., in the form of a sealing ring for sealing sewer pipes or sealing gas/water house service lines as well as cable wall ducts.…”
