Polymer solar cells made with photocrosslinkable conjugated donor–acceptor block copolymers: improvement in the thermal stability and morphology with a single-component active layer

Abstract: Recently, conjugated donor–acceptor block copolymers (CDABPs) were synthesized by one-pot polymerization and applied in polymer solar cells with a single-component active layer. These polymers can suppress phase separation and exhibit...

“…We successfully synthesized PM6- b -TT bearing a medium-band gap PM6 as the first D 1 and a wide-band gap PBDT-TT as the second D 2 using the one-pot polymerization method. Scheme depicts the synthesis pathway and expected structure of PM6- b -TT. After polymerization, the recovered crude product was purified using Soxhlet extraction with acetone, hexane, methylene chloride (MC), and chloroform (CF).…”

“…Meanwhile, conjugated block copolymers (CBPs) have been developed as promising active materials for PSCs, which enable better nanoscale control of donor (D)–acceptor (A) interfaces in thin-film morphology and improve the performance of PSCs. In our previous study, to synthesize the D–A CBPs, we introduced “one-pot polymerization” and reported the synthesis of a novel, highly crystalline CBP using this strategy. Two donor blocks can be combined to improve the performance of PSCs, or acceptor blocks and donor blocks can be combined with each other for application to single-component PSCs. Although CBPs represent a huge potential for PSCs, CBPs containing two donor blocks have been less explored than representative D–A-type block copolymers, leaving room for further improvement in CBP design.…”
