Polymer-metal complexes of polyacrylonitrile and its copolymers: synthesis and theoretical study

Abstract: Polyacrylonitrile, poly(styrene-acrylonitrile) and poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) complexes with transition metal salts have been synthesized. The synthesis were attempted by carrying out free radical polymerization reactions in aqueous transition metal salt solutions (ZnCl 2 , CuCl 2 , CoCl 2 , CoSO 4 , NiSO 4 , CuSO 4 ) and by addition of the transition metal salts to the reaction mixture in the final stage of the polymerization. It is shown experimentally and theoretically that the first method is su… Show more

“…All of the copolymer-metal complexes were colored and insoluble in common organic solvents. e cause of the insoluble metal complexes in organic solvents was associated with a cross-linked structure [19,20]. Accordingly, the characterization of copolymer-metal complexes was carried out by FT-IR, elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, XRD, SEM/SEM-EDX, DSC, TGA, and DTA.…”

“…The resulting color metal complexes were insoluble in any organic solvents. The reason of the insoluble metal complexes in organic solvents is due to their crosslinked structure [12,20]. Therefore, the characterization of polymer-metal complexes was carried out by FT-IR, DTA, TGA, SEM, AAS, and elemental analysis.…”
