“…This commonly leads to a poor modulation efficiency and a slow modulation speed. To our best knowledge, the fastest records of lumped and traveling-wave fiber-integrated EOMs are 250 MHz and 5 GHz for 3-dB bandwidths, respectively 29 .…”

“…To circumvent the coupling complexity and further reduce coupling losses, a feasible solution is to directly integrate EOMs within optical fibers, connecting EOM devices with light sources using standard interfaces of optical fibers. For the sake of all-fiber operations, hybrid configurations using tunable materials and specially possessed optical fibers, for instance, tapered optical fibers [25][26][27][28] , D-shaped optical fibers 24,29,30 and photonic crystal fibers 31,32 , have been demonstrated to modulate the amplitude of guided light. However, tunable materials in most of such configurations are only allowed to interact with evanescent fields of the light.…”

“…Furthermore, they are more compatible with silica fibres in other parts of the system. Hence there are considerable interests in R & D of polymer EO fibres or fibre-optic devices [17][18][19][20].…”
