The aims of this study were to examine the features of teenagers involved in polygamy partnerships in the chosen case study area, using socio-demographic relationships. The types research is descriptive and quantitative. This research method uses a survey approach to obtain data from a collection of panels or respondents. Purposive sampling strategies were applied. The total sample of 48 respondents consists of 16 homes, each with 16 husbands, 16 first wives, and 16 second wives. The analysis technique is descriptive, utilizing percentage calculations. The results of this study found that female teenage polygamy was discovered in 14 villages, with Mekar Jaya and Kertaju having the highest concentrations. 44% of the teen polygamy population was 17 years or younger. Based on their work activity, 73% of polygamous teens were found to be unemployed. Women who do not work are more likely to be open to polygamous relationships. The bulk of polygamous women are from villages outside the subregion. The dispersion of their original villages influences the socio-spatial and socio-demographic characteristics of young polygamists. The prevalence of polygamy marriage among young people can be attributed to teenagers' lack of knowledge of the obligations associated with marriage, namely the tasks demanded of a husband.

The preservation of the culturally important traditional herbal medicine practice in Ghana is threatened by the growth of allopathic medicine. It is argued that two main factors comprise this threat: significant safety concerns over many traditional herbal preparations, and a conflict in therapeutic frameworks which provides a substrate for the production of misinformation regarding allopathic medicine. Poorly enforced regulation of the commercial herbal market and a total lack of regulation of the traditional herbal market have led to prevalent contamination of herbal preparations with pathogenic bacteria and an unacceptable risk of pharmacological toxicity due to inconsistent production methods and understanding of the active components in these preparations. Simultaneously, misinformation spread by traditional herbal practitioners about allopathic medicine has caused significant morbidity and mortality in Ghana. Evidence from the literature and experience from clinical practice in a hospital in the Eastern region of Ghana are used to explore these factors and provide recommendations. First, thorough regulation of the herbal practice is needed to allay safety concerns. Second, the overall healthcare landscape will have to change to resolve the current tensions between practices. One solution would be the formation of a cooperative healthcare system which incorporates both the allopathic and herbal practices with well‐defined, nonoverlapping scopes of practice. However, such a novel landscape may be unrealistic, with the potential for traditional herbal practices being relegated to secondary role, mainly providing pharmacologically inert preparations while continuing to benefit patients through spiritual, cultural and pastoral interventions.

Measurement and conceptualization of male involvement in family planning: a bibliometric analysis of Africa-based studies

Background Male involvement in Family Planning (FP) is an exercise of men’s sexual and reproductive health rights. However, the measurement of male involvement has been highly inconsistent and too discretional in FP studies. As a result, we used bibliometric tools to analyze the existing measures of male involvement in FP and recommend modifications for standard measures. Methods Using developed search terms, we searched for research articles ever published on male involvement in FP from Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed databases. The search results were filtered for studies that focused on Africa. A total of 152 research articles were selected after the screening, and bibliometric analysis was performed in R. Results Results showed that 54% of the studies measured male involvement through approval for FP, while 46.7% measured it through the attitude of males to FP. About 31% measured male involvement through input in deciding FP method, while others measured it through inputs in the choice of FP service center (13.6%), attendance at FP clinic/service center (17.8%), and monetary provision for FP services/materials (12.4%). About 82.2% of the studies used primary data, though the majority (61.2%) obtained information on male involvement from women alone. Only about one in five studies (19.1%) got responses from males and females, with fewer focusing on males alone. Conclusion Most studies have measured male involvement in FP through expressed or perceived approval for FP. However, these do not sufficiently capture male involvement and do not reflect women’s autonomy. Other more encompassing measures of male involvement, which would reflect the amount of intimacy among heterosexual partners, depict the extent of the exercise of person-centered rights, and encourage the collection of union-specific data, are recommended.
