To contribute to the development of urban beekeeping, we designed this study to obtain more information about the contamination of urban bee products with toxic metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and pesticides. The samples of honey (N=23), pollen (N=13), and floral nectar (N=6) were collected from the experimental stationary apiary of the Belgrade University Faculty of Agriculture located in centre of Zemun (a municipality of the Belgrade metropolitan area) in 2015 and 2016. Metals (Pb, Cd, As, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Ni, Cr, and Hg) were determined with inductively coupled plasma quadrupole mass spectrometry (ICP-QMS). Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were analysed with high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD). Pesticides were analysed with gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The honey samples were generally within the European and Serbian regulatory limits. The levels of all the 123 analysed pesticides were below the limit of quantification (LOQ). Regarding PAH levels in honey, the highest content was found for naphthalene. The elevated levels of Hg and Cr and of PAHs in the pollen samples indicated air pollution. Pesticide residues in pollen, however, were below the LOQ. In nectar, metal levels were relatively similar to those in honey. Our results suggest that the investigated urban honey meets the regulatory requirements for metals, PAHs, and pesticides and is therefore safe for consumption.

Abstract:The aim of study quantitative analysis of toxic heavy metals Cd, Pb, Ni , AS, V and trace element Fe, Mg, Se ,Cu, Mn, K, Na, Cain different kinds of Iraqi honey of bee and compare with other types. elements were determined by FAAS and GFAAS method. Because of the nutritional value and high medical honey for humans so it was necessary to appoint metals of great importance. High concentration of essential metals and Heavy metals can be toxic both to man and animals. The results indicated that the Seand K elements recorded at high concentrations (0.0384-712.8)mg/kg respectively while the Cu element recorded the low concentration(0.1) mg/kg in all kind of honey samples. The contents of heavy and trace metals in honey samples were found to be between (0.100-0.

“…Cd content ranged between 0.02-0.03 mg/kg, Pb content was 0.03-0.66 mg/kg, and As content was in the range of 0.38-2.25 mg/kg, respectively. The average measured content for As in five sub-regions was higher than permitted by national legislation (< 0.5 mg/kg) and much higher than in samples from the Czech Republic (Batelková et al 2012) where the levels of As were between 0.001 and 0.004 mg/kg or from Chile (Bastías et al 2013) where they ranged from 0.002 mg/kg to 0.172 mg/kg. Food Sci., 35: 488-495.Principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) were used to define the geographical origin of three types of monofloral (chestnut, linden, and acacia), two types of multifloral (meadow and mixed), and forest honey produced over two consecutive harvest seasons in the Una-Sana Canton (Bosnia and Herzegovina), which is geographically divided into eight sub-regions. Statistical analysis was applied to the measurement of physico-chemical and sensory parameters, as well as micro-and macronutrient (K, Na, Mg, Zn, Fe, Mn, and Al) content, along with some heavy metals (Cd, Pb, and As). Using the PCA method the characteristic parameters for all eight sub-regions were determined, while the CA grouping method was used to determine the characteristic parameters for six sub-regions.
