“…The median Σ 7 PCB concentration was 3.2 μg/kg (range < 0.4 to 100 μg/kg), while median concentrations of each congener ranged from <0.1 to 0.94 μg/kg (overall range < 0.1 to 27 μg/kg). While these concentrations were lower than those observed by Zgheib et al (congener median < 10–50 μg/kg and overall range 10–60 μg/kg) and a study of gully pot sediments in Bergen, Norway (Σ 7 PCB median 29 μg/kg and range < 0.4 to 704 μg/kg), they tended to be higher than those observed in a recent study of PCBs in the particulate phase of stormwater in Maryland, USA (overall congener range < 0.00167 to 1.92 μg/kg) …”

“…In addition, dissolved PCBs were present in significant concentrations in stormwater samples, in contrast to what has been previously reported . The average number of chlorines found in the dissolved phase of stormwater samples was lower than the average number found in the stormwater sediment samples . Particle-bound PCBs tended to have higher numbers of chlorine per biphenyl compared to dissolved PCBs.…”

“…Particle size distribution (PSD) can impact the affiliation of pollutants, including PCBs, with particulate matter in stormwater. , PSD could only be measured for two of five influent samples and none of the effluent samples because of low particulate matter content. The particle size in event I influent ranged from 5 to 400 μm (Table S2), with a median particle size ( d 50 ) of 65.7 μm.…”

“…A nonpoint source of PCBs may have been discovered in a study of 209 PCBs in stormwater sediments from roadway sites across Maryland, USA. The non‐Aroclor congener PCB‐11 was detected in all samples including at high levels in a sample containing small yellow flakes, which when tested also had very high levels and appeared to be yellow traffic paint (Cao, Capozzi, Kjellerup, & Davis, 2019). Additional testing is needed to explore whether azo‐type pigments such as those used in traffic paint are a nonpoint source of PCBs.…”
