Polycaprolactam filled with short glass fibres and microbeads. I. Preparation of composites by anionic activated adiabatic polymerization

Abstract: Polycaprolactam containing glass fillers was prepared by activated anionic adiabatic polymerization. The fillers and coupling agents used reduce the polymerization rate, crystalline fraction and size of supermolecular structures. The reported procedure is suitable for a one-stage preparation of bulky objects from composite materials. Mit kurzen Glasfasern und Mikrokugeln gefiilltes Polycaprolactam. I . “…This procedure is used also for poly(6-hexanelactam) (poly-e-caprolactam, PCL) and other polyamides so that various types of polyamide composites are commercially available 6,11,12) . Alternatively, the incorporation of particulate fillers 13,14) or short fibers [14][15][16][17][18] may precede the polymerization process. Such a one-step procedure leads to essential energy savings since additional polymer fusion and melt mixing are eliminated.…”
