Polyaniline Nanoskein: Synthetic Method, Characterization, and Redox Sensing

Abstract: Polyaniline nanoskein (PANS), which have polyaniline nanofibers, was developed. PANS was formulated via sequential extracting, heating, and swelling processes. The compositions of PANS have been analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis, and the results of which indicate that PANS is composed of solely organic materials. Moreover, PANS has been shown convertible absorbance characteristics according t… Show more

“…14,15 Generally, chromogenic compounds and color indicators are used in colorimetric sensors, but the application is restricted by toxicity and limited usage to a specic pH range. [16][17][18] The plasmonic properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) result in a characteristic color that is sensitive to the size and environment, which is ideal for the colorimetric detection of H 2 O 2 . 20 Due to their intense surface plasma resonance (SPR) bands, AgNPs provide great sensitivity and superior selectivity as sensing agents.…”

“…To fulfill these criteria, it is essential to fabricate a CPS by using appropriate materials. Polyaniline (PAni) is a material that has recently gained attention as one of the electroactive polymers due to its unique properties, including electrical, optical, and environmental stability. , PAni has numerous applications, especially in sensor technology. One primary reason is its redox properties, which lead to color changes during electrochemical reactions . Specifically, PAni nanoparticles (NPs) exhibit distinct color changes when exposed to various pH levels.…”

“…Although PAni-NPs have a green color at low pH, they exhibit a blue color at higher pH [ 20 ]. Based on this unique colorimetric response, PAni-NPs have been widely used to monitor changes in the pH of the surrounding environment [ 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 ]. In addition, it serves as a suitable matrix for biomolecular immobilization and promotes electron transport during redox reactions [ 26 , 27 ].…”
