Polyaniline modified attapulgite incorporated in alkyd paint for carbon steel corrosion inhibition

Abstract: In the present work, polyaniline (PANI) modified attapulgite (ATP) nanocomposite was synthesized and employed as reinforcements to enhance the corrosion resistance of the alkyd coating. The morphological and structural properties of the synthesized ATP/PANI were characterized by transmission scanning electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was employed to investigate the corrosion protection performance … Show more

“…Scanning kelvin probe (SKP) is a non-invasive and highly sensitive technique that measures the surface potential of a material, which is directly related to its corrosion resistance. , It allows for the detection of localized changes in the surface potential, providing insights into the effectiveness of corrosion inhibitors in specific areas. , Surface potential is a useful tool for thermodynamically investigating the corrosion mechanism and related reactions that occur on the surface of metals. SKP enables the exploration of how the potential of metal surface atoms is affected by the presence of adsorbed inhibitors. , The Volta potential map along with the fitting curve of MS and specimens immersed in the solution containing PyQAs and PiQAs is depicted in Figure .…”

“…Several studies have reported a direct correlation between the Volta potential, as measured by SKP, and the corrosion potential. , The Volta potential is a measure of the surface potential of a material and is related to its tendency to undergo corrosion. In the absence of corrosion inhibitors, the potential distribution on the surface of the MS showed a notably positive value (325 mV), suggesting significant corrosion of the surface.…”
