“…The 1,338 cm −1 band with mixed contributions of DNA and CH vibrations showed this same trend. This is consistent with the SW620 having larger RNA content [51] and nuclear area [52] that SW480.…”

“…[53,61] This can be attributed to the Warburg effect, due to which highly proliferative cancerous cells have increased lactate contents; HCT116, SW620, and HT29 are known to have lower doubling times than SW480 and HL60 cells. [51,[62][63][64] For the carcinoma cell lines, the lactate contribution appears to be correlated with the cancer stage.…”

“…In fact, the less differentiated SW480 cells (from a moderately differentiated colon adenocarcinoma, grade IV Duke B) showed a more pronounced susceptibility to VK1 action due to a more marked antiproliferative effect, an increased Bax/Bcl-2 ratio persisting up to 72 h, and a significant increase in the phosphorylation of ERK 1/2 starting from low VK1 concentrations in comparison to the more differentiated HT-29 and Caco-2 cell lines. These data are in accordance with the reported high capacity of de novo polyamine biosynthesis and of polyamine uptake ascribed to this cell line, representing probably a precondition for the rapid growth ability shown by SW480 [ 35 ].…”

“…Moreover, this evidence indicates a different proliferative behavior and a different response to VK1 by gastric and colon cancer cells, with the latter showing a more pronounced susceptibility to VK1 action. This cell line demonstrated growth ability closely linked to the high capacity of de novo polyamine biosynthesis and polyamine uptake (48). This evidence supports the hypothesis that VK1 may have different effects on different types of cell lines.…”
