Polyacrylamide-Grafted Actinidia deliciosa peels powder (PGADP) for the sequestration of crystal violet dye: isotherms, kinetics and thermodynamic studies

Abstract: Herein, a novel and eco-friendly low-cost adsorbent polyacrylamide-grafted Actinidia deliciosa (Kiwi fruit) peels powder (PGADP) was synthesized and utilized as a potential adsorbent for the sequestration of crystal violet (CV) dye from aqueous solution. The material was characterized by various analytical techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).… Show more

“…Effluents derived from the textile, food, plastics, and cosmetics industries are rich in dyes [2,3]. Dyes have a complex structure, are stable to light and heat, can be highly toxic, potentially carcinogenic, and mutagenic [4], and rapidly accumulate in living cells and damage human health [5,6].…”

“…To investigate the interaction between the amount absorbed and the chromium concentration at equilibrium, we used the theoretical models described in [21,22]. ermodynamic parameters, including the Gibbs-free energy (∆G°), enthalpy (∆H°), and entropy (∆S°), are the actual indicators for practical application of an adsorption process.…”

“…e Freundlich and Langmuir models are the most frequently used. In the present work, four models were used and described in [21,22]. All parameters of the isotherms were determined from the linear relation (Figures 15-18) according to the equations of the models described in [21,22].…”

“…The development of a kiwi-peel-based biosorbent is not only a promising way to remove pollutants, but also an efficient solution for high-value-added utilization of kiwi peel waste [ 22 , 23 , 24 ]. Nevertheless, literature about kiwi-peel-based adsorbents was limited when compared with other fruit peels, especially with regard to their application in dye removal [ 25 , 26 , 27 ]. Moreover, research on developing a kiwi-peel-based adsorbent for selective removal of cationic dyes remained absent until now, and this topic requires further investigation.…”
