Poly(Lactic Acid) (PLA)/Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) with Graphene Nanoplatelet (GNP) Nanocomposites

Abstract: A melt blending of poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) with 30:70 PLA:ABS was prepared by a twin screw extruder with a die of 25 mm width and 0.5 mm thickness with various loadings of graphene (0-1.0 wt.%). The PLA/ABS blends were evaluated for mechanical, morphology, thermal properties and interaction of the components in the blend system. Results show the incorporation of graphene nanoplatelet (GNP) improved the tensile and modulus properties. Nevertheless, it was observed that at h… Show more

“…Once again, this can be attributed to the plasticizer effect, whereby an excessive amount of plasticizer can modify the structure of the TBP matrix and reduce its ability to support the PALF fibers mechanically. This rupture can lead to a weakening of the interfacial adhesion between the fibers and the matrix, causing a reduction in tensile strength 25,51,52 . In addition, Figure 3 demonstrates that impact strength follows a similar pattern to tensile and flexural properties.…”

“…Apart from that, incorporation of nanofiller into the blends also serves a significant impact on the final properties of nanocomposites, such as mechanical, thermal, morphology, and interfacial properties [20][21][22]. In recent years, many papers reported on PLA/PP blends reinforced with clay [23][24], multi-walled carbon nanotubes [25], and sepiolite [26].…”
