Poly(aryl ether) bearing electroactive tetraaniline pendants and allyl groups: Synthesis, photo-crosslinking and electrochemical properties

Abstract: We describe the synthesis of a novel electroactive photo‐crosslinkable poly(aryl ether), containing tetraaniline pendants and allyl groups (EPPAE). The polymer structure and spectral properties are studied in detail. By introducing the electroactive tetraaniline pandents, EPPAE reveals reversible electrochemical activity, expected electrochromic behavior and good anticorrosive performance. After crosslinking the allyl groups with UV exposure, the resultant polymer (c‐EPPAE) shows drastic change in electrochemi… Show more

“…samples, as determined by the intersection of the low frequency end of each semicircle arc with the real axis, were 14, 2.93 Â 10 5 , 4.46 Â 10 5 , 6.42 Â 10 5 , 8.28 Â 10 5 , and 10.09 Â 10 5 U, respectively. The nanocomposite coatings thus served as effective physical barriers to prevent corrosive ions in the electrolyte from penetrating the coating to induce corrosion of the steel. These results clearly demonstrate that the samples with the highest ZrP content exhibited the best corrosion protection performance 49,50.…”

“…Notably, the resonance attributed to the imino group of PADPA exists within the range of 7.19-7.24. 27,28 Furthermore, the carbon resonance signals due to O-CH 2 -N and Ar-CH 2 -N are, respectively, observed at 78.98 and 50.08 ppm in 13 C-NMR spectrum as shown in Fig. 3 to conrm the formation of the benzoxazine ring.…”

“…They can be employed in various medical and technological applications, that is, electro chromic displays, photoelectrochemical cells, high performance composites, catalysis, tissue engineering, drug delivery and biosensors, 2,3 thanks to its tunable electrical conductivity, better environmental stability, ease of preparation by oxidative polymerization techniques, low cost, and its interesting redox properties. Aniline oligomers, with well‐defined chemical structures, comparably lower molecular weights, and electroactivities similar to that of poly‐aniline (PANI), are excellent alternatives 4,5 . Linear oligoanilines have good solubility in many common organic solvents, and also, show electronic, magnetic, and optical properties of PANI which is suffering from poor solubility and poor processability 6,7 ; but, because of low molecular weights (MWs), low stabilities, and weak mechanical properties, their direct applications have some restrictions 8 .…”
